Madden NFL: “Surprise Features” in Complex Code

Abstract:

Any game that sees millions of players will certainly yield bug filled moments that may make their way to YouTube. Seth will talk about a few infamous bugs found by the Madden community and talk about the systems involved. From physics to AI to graphics to online, we will discuss a litany of systems and challenges that come along with large scale gameplay.

Bio:

Seth Christie attended Clemson as a M.S. Computer Science student from 2002 to 2004. Upon graduation, Seth began working at Electronic Arts, Tiburon in Orlando, Florida on the NFL Street 2 project. Over the past 16 years, Seth has worked primarily in the Football franchises of Madden, NCAA, and NFL Blitz. Currently, Seth is the Supervising Technical Director on the Madden NFL project, and is currently heading up the Madden NFL 21 engineering team. Seth returned to school at University of Florida in 2015 for an MBA to support his role in its interfacing with production and marketing. Madden NFL uses EA’s Frostbite engine to deliver industry leading visuals and collaboration. Because Frostbite can leverage the bandwidth of the company, nearly all rendering and systems engineers are engine developers across the company. When he is not working, Seth can be found playing a litany of games or working on his car he bought before attending Clemson – it’s seriously old.
