Blockchain: Technology and Automotive Applications

Abstract:

Blockchains and more general, Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT), have the potential to impact the automotive and mobility value chain. Blockchains fill critical gaps in the technology landscape: They can improve cross-organizational processes with the ability to track and manage tokenized assets, enabling transparency and higher efficiencies in complex business ecosystems. Further, they enable trusted transactions without intermediaries and thus, support new business models. In this talk, we investigate a variety of internal and external use case opportunities, ranging from supply chain management, Internet-of-Things, remote software updates, enhanced loyalty programs, vehicle tracking and verification, and decentral mobility market places. We present an overview of Blockchain technologies, use cases and investigate their potential and technical feasibility. Further, we discuss research challenges and opportunities.

Bio:

Dr. Andre Luckow is head of distributed ledger and emerging technologies at the BMW Group in Munich, Germany. Andre held different positions in the field of IT Innovation and Research for the BMW Group in the USA and in Germany. His work lies at the intersection of emerging technologies, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, and automotive and mobility applications. He holds a PhD in the field of distributed computing from the University of Potsdam, Germany.
